All Sparkling

August 21st, 2010 by admin

What is that huge star at night almost directly east at about 30 degrees above the horizon at 1AM sparkling.?

It's not Venus -- it sparkles like wild, all kinds of colors. I noticed it before and then never followed up. It's 1 AM now, and I just noticed it again as I put out the lights to go to sleep. This is October, so Venus is only in the morning now and does not sparkle anyway. This sparkles like wild -- all over the place and is huge. What star is this? I am in the northeastern part of the states, and that's where I am seeing it from. Thanks!

That will be Sirius. Brightest star in the night sky as seen from Earth.
