Heavy Backpack making shoulders ache.......?

Hey, i got a Backpack that weighs about 45 pounds and i walked a long distances with it to get ready for a 100 mile hike, but after a few miles, the weight which im not use to started to ache my shoulders.... My backpack has straps that put some of the weight to your hips, and one across the chest, is most the weight supposed to go on the hips? Anyhow, how do i stop my shoulders for aching?

Yes the majority of the weight should be on the hips. It would help in solving your question to know what pack and model your using and your height. Part of your problem could be in how you loaded your pack and another could be fit. As for solutions to the shoulder you could add some padding to the shoulder straps, and for the pain a little bengay. here are some articles on pack fitting and filling.
