what is cleaner in upstate new york, a lake or a river?
in particular, the sacandaga lake, or the mohawk river?
Lakes in general are not as clean as rivers. Lakes are stagnant bodies of water that is constantly filling with sediment from streams. Much of its bad stuff is located in the sediment. Rivers are polluted but since they have more movement they can clean themselves out if no more pollution is added. Upstate NY depends where these bodies of water are located. You would have to do a series of tests to determine your answer for sure. Check for E. coli and other organisms. Then check for heavy metals, pesticides, and organic pollutants from oil and gasoline.
